According to the lunar calendar, China has two springs this year. In
addition, this year is also the Year of the Dog, which is traditionally
regarded as a lucky year. For this reason, many young people in Shanghai
prefer to take the opportunity in a rush to get married.

In China, such quick marriage is also called flash marriage. Under the
flash marriage, young couple, after have got to know each other for only
a couple of months or even days, will decide to marry. Such marriage is
contradictory to traditional values, although it is quite common among
the youth.

Yu Bin works in a fitness center in Shanghai. In September when he went
to the scenic Yellow Mountain for sightseeing, he got to know a woman
from Hainan Island on the train. They fell in love with each other at
first sight and after they finished their tour, the two came back to
Shanghai and held their wedding ceremony during the National Day holiday.

23-year-old Yang Lan and her present husband Hu Qi decided to marry after
the two knew each other for only a month. After the marriage, however,
Yang discovered that her husband had a bad temper. He even beat her from
time to time. Two months later, when Yang could no longer tolerate the
marriage, she sued for divorce.

According to sociologists, Chinese people's marriage behaviors have
undergone some changes. Some young people are unwilling to shoulder the
heavy family burden and responsibilties required by traditional marriage
values. They care only about their own feelings and object to other
people's influence on their marriage. The flash marriage reflects these
people's desire for a marriage revolution.
