Fireworks to be sold in supermarkets

Beijing residents can buy fireworks at supermarkets for New Year's Day
next year, as well as during the Spring Festival, or Chinese lunar New
Year.

The announcement was released at a conference on firework safety and
management hosted by Beijing Deputy Mayor Ji Lin.

The Beijing News reports in addition to designated retailers, large
supermarkets will be allowed to sell fireworks with price tags.

The Beijing News adds citizens who apply to sell fireworks can enjoy
beneficial measures and receive approval in a shorter time than last year.

A public hearing will soon be held to discuss a temporary enclosure of
some roads to facilitate local citizens' festival celebrations. On New
Year's Eve and at Spring Festival, citizens will be led to closed roads
around communities to light fireworks.
