Items left in taxis easier to trace
(Shanghai Daily)
Updated: 2006-11-03 10:41
It will now be easier to track down lost valuables in about 42 percent of
Dazhong taxis as the company introduced a new function on Wednesday in
cabs with GPRS capability.
The GPRS, or Global Packet Radio Services, function will automatically
record the details of each ride normally handled by drivers.
The system will record the starting point and destination of each fare
and the time of the journey.
With the new function, Dazhong can easily trace the taxi and driver as
long as a person can provide the time and destination of the ride.
"For passengers that don't keep an invoice, this information will be
sufficient enough for us to locate the taxi," said Ling Dongshu, a
spokesman for Dazhong taxi.
"The new function will be particularly helpful for those who leave
valuables in the cab but don't have a business receipt. It will be a
quick and easy way to find the cab."
Ling said the system will eliminate human error. Cab drivers are required
to document each fare and sometimes make mistakes in the description of
fares, Ling said.
Dazhong has about 3,600 taxis with GPRS capability. The company said all
new cabs added to the fleet will also feature the new function.
